The executive staff of the Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) is charged with overseeing programs, infrastructure, human resources, finances, and communication for the agency. Combined, this four member executive team brings over 100 years of professional experience and commitment to CCRC. The team is dedicated to providing children and families access to quality child care, family support, economic development, and community education.

President & CEO
Dr. Michael Olenick has been the President and CEO for CCRC since 2004. He oversees all programs, projects, and services provided to over 50,000 children and families each month in a service area spanning 22,500 square miles. For more than three decades, Michael has served on numerous boards and committees at the county, state and national level. He is the immediate Past President of both Child Care Aware of America and the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network (CCRRN).
Prior to coming to CCRC, Michael served as Senior Vice President of the California Community College Foundation where he developed child, youth and family development education programs. He also served as the Chief of Emancipation for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (LADCFS).
He obtained his BA from the University of Illinois and then a master's degree from the Erikson Institute. After receiving his master's degree, Michael taught for several years at the Chicago Child Care Society in Hyde Park, Illinois. He received his Ph.D. in Education from UCLA after his dissertation, "The Relationship between Child Care Quality and Selected Social Policy Variables." He also taught child care policy at the university level and served as public policy instructor for the California Association for the Education of Young Children Leadership Program. Michael was recently honored by the California Youth Connection with their Legend award, The Child Development Institute with Their Heart Of Gold Award, and the Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce with their Community Award of Excellence.
Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Ellen Cervantes has extensive experience in non-profit management and program. She oversees the direct service work of the agency which includes its three core businesses: Head Start, Child Care Financial Assistance, and Resource & Referral/Child Development. Ellen also manages the agency's Social Enterprise, as well as Property Management. Ellen has been instrumental in securing grant funding for agency programs such as the Home Visitation Project, Gateways Career Program and the Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP) Hub. Ellen was also the driving force behind CCRC's Early Head Start, a program providing vital services to children ages 0 – 3 and a variety of grant projects including Reducing Obesity in Child Care Settings and countywide immunizations.
Ellen is currently serving on First 5's Best Start LA Workforce Development Project, an initiative focused on creating a workforce that can best support the county's prenatal-through-3 population. She also serves on the Governing Board for the County's Early Identification and Intervention Collaborative (EII), a county-wide collaboration dedicated to improving and expanding timely identification of, and intervention for, children with or at risk of delays, disabilities and other barriers of development.
Ellen earned a Master's in Social Work from UC Berkeley to make the world a better place. She is active in her community, lends her time as a volunteer and serves on the board for her Synagogue.
Chief Financial Officer
Denise Trinh oversees all segments and functions of the Finance Division, including financial reporting, general accounting, and purchasing. As a member of CCRC's leadership team, she contributes to the overall organizational planning, policy development, and implementation.
Denise brings over 15 years of nonprofit accounting and tax experience. Before joining CCRC, she served as Controller for the California Community Foundation, a national leading community foundation that stewards more than $1 billion in assets for their donors. She also worked in public accounting for a regional firm that specialized in audits of and tax services for nonprofits. She is a Certified Public Accountant, holds a BA from the UCLA, and is a member of the AICPA and the California Society of CPAs.
Vice President of Human Resources
Shirley manages the human resource function for 500 CCRC employees in 19 locations. She leads the strategic direction and execution of all Human Resource functions including organizational development, employee relations, staffing, training, benefits, budget, safety/workers compensation, and employee records.
Shirley has been a member of several senior management teams and has led the HR function for medium-sized companies, large publicly traded corporations and nonprofit organizations. She has demonstrated success in developing HR strategies that support organizational goals while evaluating risk and complying with employment laws. Her areas of expertise include performance management, business acquisitions, management coaching, organizational development, business integration, change management, employee relations, and benefits management. Shirley earned a BA in Child Development from the California State University of Northridge.
