On Saturday June 9th , 2018, CCRC hosted a community volunteer day and book drive in the San Fernando Valley. Community volunteer day is a great way to engage the community, and show our service area how we continue to work for them. Thanks to our 35 volunteers and a handful of staff members, we were able to build bookshelves, sort books, and wrap gifts that will be distributed during the holidays.
In tandem with our volunteer day, we held our annual book drive in support of our literacy campaign, What a Difference a BOOK Makes! Thank you to all the generous donors for their donations. We are constantly distributing books at our events. Just last month, at our 22nd Annabelle Godwin Play Day, we distribute over 6,000 books to thousands of families in the San Fernando Valley. The year is not over for us!
In addition to collecting and sorting books, volunteers built bookshelves. These bookshelves will be placed with the numerous Head Start sites and child care providers that we work with and who need them the most.
Thanks to our volunteers, we got a head start on our holiday book and toy wrapping. In a few short hours they wrapped over 2,000 toys! We generally distribute over 20,000 books and toys during the holidays to children who usually go without.
If you are looking for more ways to give back to your community, CCRC is always accepting book and toy donations year round at all of our locations.
A special thanks to all the volunteers for helping us continue to promote literacy. Visit our volunteer page to learn about our on-site and corporate opportunism.
