Do you have teething tots who just can’t resist putting everything into their mouths? These fun edible activities may be just right for you!
1. Edible Finger Paint
Pour 1 cup of cold water and 1 cup of flour into a pan. Gradually add 3 cups of boiling water to the mix. Stir over heat until it boils. Remove from the heat and let it cool. Then divide the mixture into bowls and add food coloring. Store in airtight container until you are ready to use. It’s not as thick as Jell-O but not as thin as water. Great for finger painting activities.
2. Sensory Jell-O
This activity is easy. Just make Jell-O according to the directions and let kids play in it! It’s fun to create ecosystems according to the color of the Jell-O and add toys accordingly.
• Green = Rain forest, great for toy bugs and frogs
• Blue = Deep Sea, great for toy fish and sharks. You can use crushed cereal or graham crackers to resemble the ocean floor.
• Yellow = Desert, great for toy snakes, turtles and cacti.
This activity is a great way to teach children about animals, geography and habitats. Your child will enjoy the squishy feeling of the Jell-O not to mention the joy than comes from pulling the toys out and having the opportunity to eat around the toys or rinse them off.
3. Ice Painting
To set this up, just fill an ice cube tray with water and stir in food coloring. Place in the freezer and after roughly 30 minutes, stick toothpicks or Popsicle sticks in each ice cube. When it’s frozen, let the kids paint with them! It looks like watercolor. Your tot will enjoy the cool feeling of the ice and the ability to eat or paint!
