There are many ways to get involved in Election Day even beyond casting your ballot.
Vote
Registering to vote and making informed selections on your ballot is the most simple yet impactful way to be involved.
Check to see that the proper address is listed in your voter registration and make sure you return the ballot in person before polls close or drop it in the mail with a postmark on or before Nov. 3.
Volunteer
Want to take an even more active role? The Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County Elections Offices are accepting volunteers to work at polling stations on Election Day.
Register on the Los Angeles County or San Bernardino County clerk and recorder website to help set up the polling location, hand out ballots, check election rosters, and keep the election site organized throughout the day.
To volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old, a California resident, a U.S. citizen, and registered voter. You will also have to complete a 2-hour training course prior to Election Day.
Campaign
If you feel passionately about an issue or candidate, there are different ways you can help promote an issue and encourage people to give support financially or with their vote.
As long as you aren’t paid, you can volunteer by sending emails, sharing website links, and maintaining a website. Hosting a campaign event at a church or other public space is also allowed under most circumstances.
Sharing your beliefs with your friends and family is another way to help support a cause or candidate. If you choose to share news stories about campaign issues or candidates on social media, make sure the articles are from trusted sources.
Contribute
If you’ve got money to spare, you can make a financial contribution of up to $2,800 to a political campaign.
Even minors can make a donation to a campaign as long as it’s their own money and was not given to them as a gift with the intention to make a campaign contribution.
According to the Federal Elections Commission, a non-citizen cannot donate financially to a campaign but can serve as an unpaid volunteer who is not involved in decision making.
Campaign contributions are not tax deductible.
