Children bounced around excitedly in the back seats of the cars as their parents drove through Child Care Resource Center’s school supply distribution drives this past weekend.
The two drive-thru style events were hosted at CCRC locations in Van Nuys and the Antelope Valley. We provided about 210 families with school supplies and clothing so children can start the year off right.
“I want green! Wait, no I want the red one!” shouted one child as his mother asked him to pick from the assorted colors of backpacks we offered.
Inside each backpack were notepads, folders, markers, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, glue sticks, hand sanitizers, rulers and pouches with pencils and pencils.
In addition to the 675 filled backpacks distributed, we also gave families 810 articles of clothing and 4,725 protective face masks. Children received 675 age appropriate books to help facilitate early learning and encourage a love for reading.
Funds for the supplies came from fundraising events like our virtual bingo and paint night events. We’re thankful to everyone who participated in those exciting family fun nights, which ensured we could supply local families with the items their children need to start the school year.
