Empty a bottle of glow in the dark glue into a container. Mix in equal parts shaving cream. If you can, let your child lead the whole way through and be there to guide them. Most of these steps increase motor functions in children and spark their minds. Take time to note the different consistencies in both the glue and shaving cream. Even though it’s early, let your children feel the difference. Although the Vroom tip card is geared toward younger children, the brainy background still rings true.
Add 3 drops of food coloring, and start mixing. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your colors! Most food coloring boxes only provide primary colors, be sure to ask your children what mixtures create new colors.
It's time to add our activator – we chose Borax Detergent Booster. Great on clothes and even better in slime! Add one tablespoon of Borax into a cup of water, then add to your glue and shaving cream sparingly. The amount of activator will determine the texture of your slime. Use this opportunity to talk to your children about different measurements. As you stirring, practice counting! For older children you can count in multiple of five, ten or even seven.
Here comes the fun part! Pull back your sleeves and get your hands deep into the slime. Kneed, tug and pull until you get the consistency you like. Roll that ball on the table or counter for added fun.
It’s time to decorate! Slime is awesome by itself but can be even more fun with glitter and beads. Let your kids go all out and see what they come up with. Take this time to add more color if you haven’t reached your desired hue. Be careful because the food coloring can stain your hands. Extend the fun and encourage your little ones to try cutting their slime with child safety scissors. Cutting with scissors helps develop their fine motor skills and enhances their hand eye coordination. When you’re ready, turn off the lights and watch it glow! Check us out on YouTube and see our results. Be sure to tell us in the comments how your slime experiments turn out!
