 OVERVIEW & INTRODUCTION
Our Case for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The last few years have made it evident that we are living through a unique time—a time like no other—in modern history. Since 2020, we have simultaneously faced a global pandemic1, transitioned to a remote/hybrid workplace2, and witnessed a national movement calling for the end of systemic racism3. All such events have urged industry leaders across all sectors
to consider more closely the toll that sociopolitical issues have on employees’ lives. Many leaders realized how factors such as race, gender, and socioeconomic status impact people in and outside of the workplace4. For this reason, we aim to be more transparent about our agency’s DEI-related progress5.
Our DEI strategic planning process provides CCRC the opportunity to take a look at:
• Programs, practices, and policies
• Resources and educational opportunities and experiences • Workforce demographics
• Professional development opportunities
• Hiring and promotional trends
In year one (2022), the agency focused on onboarding their first DEI Director, reviewed previous survey data, spoke with employees at all levels across the agency to understand their DEI needs, hired and onboarded two additional employees for the Division to expand, offered workshops and team builders for various divisions, and finalized a strategic plan. In year two, the DEI Division will continue to address equity more deeply across the agency. We understand that DEI work is each of our responsibility and look forward to cocreating and collaborating across divisions.
