Preparedness and Response Readiness: R&R Agencies
“It would be cool if there were a system in place such as at Claremont. I get notification when there is a fire drill on the campus. It would be nice if we had something like that for providers through the Alliance [CCALA].”
Readiness to Fulfill This Role
When asked whether R&R agencies are ready to fulfill the role of supporting providers in emergency/disaster recovery, participants agreed that, due to limited resources, the R&R agencies are not currently ready. However, they are willing to fulfill this role. A discussion on what resources are needed and what the current strengths and opportunities of the R&Rs followed. Participants agreed that the following resources are needed to fulfill this role:
 Technology
 Coordination
 A lead person to do it all
 Money (which could buy the technology and staff time for coordination)
Current strengths and opportunities:




Have a training system structure set in place [Gateways for Early Educators].
“We could also think about Gateways. Look at the training structure and make some of the trainings required instead of optional (e.g., disaster preparedness) and change the training strands.”
The initial work and curriculum has already been put together.
“We did the initial work and have something to work off. We have the curriculum we put together.”
The R&R reach within Los Angeles County is extensive.
“Los Angeles County is one third of the state. The more that we can strengthen our system that already exists.”
“We are an entity that is able to provide services countywide.” “And there are over 7000 providers countywide.”
Could capitalize on resources such as the printed database of providers.
For the R&Rs to succeed in this effort:
 The efforts would have to be collaborative, countywide.
 The efforts would have to be on‐going.
Threats to these efforts:
 The state budget.
 It depends on the scope of work and deliverables and the staff.
