Summary of Findings and Recommendations from R&R Agency and Early Care and Education Provider Focus Groups
At the conclusion of the R&R agency and the early care and education provider focus groups, the program and evaluation teams at the CCRC met to create recommendations based on the results.
Emergency Preparedness Mandates/Policies
Finding: RR Agency Staff expressed a lack of clarity on what the mandates are for child care providers in emergency preparedness.
Recommendation: Develop a one-sheet list of what is required and some recommendations. What is required appears to be limited to:
 Earthquake plan (required but never reviewed by CCL)
 Evacuation plan (same)
 Fire extinguisher
 Location to meet parents after an emergency (whether the information is shared with parents or not is not required or reviewed)
Recommendation: In the training workshops, ask providers to bring their plans with them to review.
Related Action: Person in charge of one-sheet and incorporating information into trainings: Liz Melendrez.
Emergency Preparedness
Finding: R&R agency staff initially indicated that they are prepared for threats of violence. However, in further discussion, many disclosed that they are not ready for threats of violence in the R&R.
Finding: In the survey, child care providers indicated that they have contact information for the parents of the children they serve. However, during the focus group discussions, many expressed difficulty in keeping the information up to date. Incorrect parent contact information may be a symptom of a larger issue: a lack of parent involvement.
Recommendation—Emergency Plans for R&R Agencies: Develop a written set of recommendations for R&R agencies that will be presented to CCALA and requested to be disseminated to all R&R agencies. (CCRC does not have the funding to review plans and/or make recommendations to specific plans.)
