One of the main objectives of ECE professionals participating in Gateways trainings is to earn a 40 hour passport. To achieve this necessitates accessibility of trainings for ECE professionals working towards the passport completion. Table 5 shows the number of trainings offered in each strand in relation to the number of trainings and training hours required to achieve a Gateways passport. Anecdotal information from participants collected through past surveys have indicated that being able to access the trainings needed to complete a Gateways passport has been a challenge. Some of the challenges participants have faced include, not being able to attend a training because of the date or time it was offered, the training was not offered in a language the participant understood, the location of the training offered was too far away, or the trainings offered were trainings participants had already completed. Table 5 shows the number of trainings offered in each training strand compared to what is required for passport completion. While at face value it may appear that each agency offered more than the minimum number of trainings and training hours required for the passport, this may not necessarily address the challenges faced by a diverse community. For example, while an agency may have offered 4 trainings in a particular strand when 4 were required, the trainings may have not met a particular participant’s needs. For example, not all trainings may have been offered at a day and time the participant could attend, not all trainings may have been offered in an accessible language or the trainings offered may have been trainings the participant already took. Therefore, a more detailed analysis of trainings offered to truly understand how ECE professionals’ needs are being made is recommended.
