CalSAC Leadership Development Institute (LDI) has selected Cynthia Renteria, Assistant Director of Resource & Referral Programs at the Child Care Resource Center (CCRC), as a member of the LDI class of 2015. This is a prestigious, yearlong program for 10 leaders from across the state of California.
The LDI is an intensive cohort-based program for emerging leaders who work in afterschool, school-age child care, early learning and summer enrichment programs. Using a multicultural leadership framework, the LDI equips professionals for advanced leadership in the field with skills in management and leadership. For 2015, CalSAC recruited 10 diverse senior staff who currently hold leadership positions in California-based organizations. Candidates have demonstrated abilities in supervision, working with budgets, and strategic planning and are familiar with the larger field with exposure to complex programmatic and organizational challenges.
However, the Institute will go beyond traditional leadership skill building. An essential component of this project will be to understand how power, privilege, and oppression manifests itself in these fields. Often leaders of color are aware of these concepts and many can point to specific experiences combating these issues, but communal spaces to reflect, strategize, and plan are rare. The Leadership Development Institute will build on these unique experiences and enable fellows to explore the issues and uncover healthy ways to challenge, navigate, and flourish in spite of the realities of power, privilege, and oppression.
Cynthia Renteria joined CCRC in 2001 and has worked in a variety of leadership positions. She was recently promoted to Assistant Director for Resource & Referral Programs which include child care workforce development, finding and selecting quality child care, health & safety, nutrition, family literacy, and early childhood development.
