Improving Outcomes
Strengthening families means supporting their efforts to secure gainful employment, affordable child care, and quality education. Because California is such an expensive place to live, it can be difficult for families to find this balance.
CCRC’s extensive network of resources and programs meet the individual needs of families and make care affordable and accessible.
Through CCRC’s Family Child Care Home Education Network (FCCHEN), eligible families receive home-based child care from a state-funded, licensed provider. Child development specialists regularly assess children’s growth and development and coordinate training and home visits with the provider. Through FCCHEN, children receive care in a safe and healthy environment and participate in developmentally appropriate activities.
A mother and her daughter became
the first participants to achieve five continuous years in CCRC’s Home Visiting program. After separating from her baby’s father, the mother said the program was critical in helping her through the early years of her child’s life.
Preschool Development Grant
As part of the Preschool Development Grant, CCRC was tasked with supporting Resource & Referral agencies statewide to empower parents to better understand their role in child development. CCRC
led the coordination and implementation of Parent Cafés across the state, connecting families and supporting community building, peer sharing experiences, and knowledge development. The PDG Parent Cafés promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children birth to age 5 with content including Strengthening Families and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” By June 2020, 243 Parent Cafés held across the state were attended by 2,378 participants.
