Initiative #2: Program Development
Focus new program development on underserved and special needs children
• CCRC’s Head Start program experienced tremendous growth and has more than doubled the total number of children served each year to almost 3,000 Program staff and parents receive trainings and workshops for communicating with special needs children, mental health, nutrition, physical activity, education, male involvement, and much more School readiness goals and activities are presented to parents in English, Spanish and Armenian Translation into other languages, including Arabic, is provided on an as needed basis
• We were engaged by the Annie E Casey Foundation to convene community groups in the San Fernando Valley and operationalize the family strengths model Susan Savage, CCRC’s Research & Evaluation Director, has been active with the California Early Care and Education Workforce Registry and Save My Seat campaign funded through the Advancement Project (www savemyseatla org)
• Federal funding was awarded to CCRC’s Research Department and CSUN to conduct research across the state of California to help identify opportunities and challenges for family child care providers to participate in quality improvement programs This has successfully placed CCRC at the national level of research and evaluation
• CCRC has been called upon to provide testimony and guidance to key policymakers as they craft legislation and develop budgets for California’s Child Care and Early Learning System Dr Michael Olenick and Donna Sneeringer have been panel members
at key Budget Committee hearings to provide perspective on the impacts decisions would have on programs in our community
• CCRC administered a county-wide flu vaccination program through which child care providers were trained on the benefits of vaccines The providers,
in turn, disseminated information to the families of children in their care Over 2,000 children, parents, and providers were vaccinated in hard to reach communities
