Accomplishments
Initiative #1: Increase Services
Increase the depth and breadth of services available to children and families
• CCRC was awarded the contract to provide Stage 2, 3 and General Alternative Payment child care programs as well as Resource & Referral programs for the entirety of San Bernardino County in January 2013 Service delivery began in April 2013 and this expansion has impacted every aspect of our business from size, organizational structure, external collaborations, new grants and programs, impact on the field state-wide, and from a national perspective
• The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health chose CCRC as the fiscal agent to administrate a five year county-wide childhood obesity prevention program Choose Health LA Child Care providers are trained and coached on the importance of nutrition and physical activity for the children in their care
• CCRC staff helped develop a program with the UCLA Dental School which focuses on the importance of early dental care in child care settings CCRC is also one of the participating sites working with 160 providers and 1,500 parents to reduce tooth decay and develop lifelong healthy dental habits
• CCRC now hosts 12 major events each year with more than 10,000 community members in attendance These events are free and contain a mission-driven, program related component
• We built interactive, age appropriate playgrounds at CCRC’s Osborne and Zine Head Start preschools with guidance, support and funding from KaBOOM!, Washington Mutual, New Economics for Women, and Home Depot
• In partnership with California State University Northridge (CSUN) and Kaiser Permanente, CCRC provides a no cost opportunity for child care providers to learn how to integrate age appropriate physical activities into child care environments Coaching visits include support from CSUN Kinesiology students and CCRC Nutrition and Physical Activity specialists
• In addition to individual donations and corporate sponsors, CCRC has a large in kind donation program Over the past five years, we have collected and distributed over $5 million worth of books, toys,furniture,cribs,strollers,highchairs,clothing,andotherchilditems DonorsincludeDisney, DreamWorks, Buy Buy Baby, Pottery Barn Kids, Toys R’Us, Babies R’Us, Borders, Barnes & Noble, The Children’s Place, Jack & Jill, and hundreds of other community members and organizations
• First 5 San Bernardino awarded CCRC a grant to use the Motheread Curriculum to help children and parents build literary skills together
