 MESSAGE
from thePRESIDENT&CEO
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As I complete my 10th year as President & CEO, I am extremely proud of what we have helped the community achieve. The rate of change for us has been rapid and often an uphill climb. But, with every plan we strategize and every action we implement, we are driven by the desire to offer children, families, and child care providers an opportunity to succeed.
In 2013, CCRC expanded and now serves the entirety of San Bernardino County along with the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valleys. The addition of this $42 million contract – and no budget cuts this year – makes CCRC one of the largest non-profit organizations in California with an operating budget of close to $150 million. With four full service office locations and 18 Head Start preschools, we offer quality programs and support to an average of 45,000 residents monthly in a service area that approaches 25,000 square miles.
Some of our mission-driven accomplishments of the past year include:
• The expansion of our Motheread literacy program to San Bernardino County families.
• Non-Profit of the Year award from the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce.
• Celebration of the collection and local distribution of 480,000 age appropriate books.
• A Community Service Day for the Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and Zurich International Insurance which resulted in donations totaling $30,000.
• Leadership of a multi-million dollar county-wide effort funded by First 5 LA and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to help improve the nutrition and physical activity environment in child care settings.
• Improved outcomes for children through individualized education, mentoring and support of child care providers in the Gateways for Early Educators program - 34 completed the “passport to quality” requirements.
My staff and I continue to find ways to strengthen families and we truly believe that every child, regardless of family income, ethnic background, or geographic location, deserves an equal chance to achieve the American dream.
And, finally, the Early Childhood Development field has been officially recognized by President Obama and bipartisan Senate leadership as an integral part of the nation’s focus and its future. This paradigm shift moves us one step closer to giving every child that chance.
Thanks for your support.
