A MATTER OF MINUTESTM IS ALL IT TAKES Never leave a child alone in, or near, a car!
Thousands of children and families are tragically affected every year by non‐traffic‐related incidents with vehicles. Leaving kids alone in, or around, a car even for just a Matter of MinutesTM can be deadly for the child and devastating for the family.
There are several steps you can take to keep your children safe:
• Never leave children alone in, or near, a car
• If you see a child locked inside a car ‐ call 911 immediately
• Teach children that its not safe to play in, or around, a car even in driveways or parking lot • Keep car keys away from children and always keep cars locked
• Check cars and their trunks immediately if a child is missing
The Child Care Resource Center is committed to keep children safe! We encourage you to contact us for FREE Matter of MinutesTM education materials. Please call 818‐717‐1036 or e-mail us at [email protected].
     Summer Safety Tips
There is a lot going on in the summer especially for parents and child care providers. Even though this is a busy season for all of us, it is important to keep the following summer safety tips in mind.

• Always stay within arm’s reach of your child in, or near, a body of water
• Keep fences locked around all bodies of water
• Learn adult, child and infant CPR and first aid techniques
Sun Safety – Protect yourself and those in your care! Visit www.sunsafetyalliance.org for more information. • On an average, children get three times more sun exposure than adults
• The sun is the strongest and most harmful between 10am and 4pm
• Apply sunscreen before going outdoors and reapply often
• Apply SPF 30 or higher on all children - keep children under 6 month out of the sun
Bugs Safety – to avoid a friendly encounter with outdoor creatures, try the following: • Don’t use scented soaps, perfumes or hair spray
• Avoid areas where insects nest or congregate
• Avoid dressing your child in clothing with bright colors or flowery prints
• For children over two months of age, an insect repellant with 30% DEET is recommended (products with 10% DEET protects for only about 30 minutes)
