CCRC’s federally funded Head Start 0-5 programs are designed to get children and parents ready for school using a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum for those families at 100% of poverty. While school readiness preparation is the primary focus of Head Start, other components of the program including pre- and post-natal care, nutrition, medical and dental care, early literacy, early childhood development, mental health, and disabilities services. These elements are essential to ensure that a child’s physical, social, and developmental needs are met.
Head Start engages and empowers parents by providing them with community resources and educational opportunities to help them set family goals and achieve success. Every child’s needs are addressed on an individual basis and no less than 10% of enrollment is made available to children with special needs.
Families must meet the federal income guidelines in order to “income qualify” for the program. A family automatically “income qualifies” if they are receiving ongoing public assistance through the government, if the child is in foster care, or is a ward of the state. Priority for enrollment is based on several factors which may include parental status, special needs, and housing situations.
