 Government Relations
CCRC’s advocacy efforts expanded during 2016 with exciting new partnerships and progress in making the case for funding and programs that support our mission to cultivate child, family and community well-being.
We continue to be active partners at the state level, educating our elected
representatives about the needs of families in their community for child care and
early learning programs. We worked closely with our statewide associations,
California Child Care Resource & Referral Network, California Alternative Payment
Association, and the California State Head Start Association. In addition, CCRC partnered with the Early Childhood Education Coalition which worked with advocacy groups and service providers to develop a unified state budget request focused on increasing reimbursement rates.
Locally, in Los Angeles County, we partnered with our colleagues at the Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles to develop strong local systems for children and families. We continued work with LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl and the Department of Children and Family Services to develop systems level solutions to address the unique child care needs of children in the foster care system. We hosted our 25th annual Policy Forum in the San Fernando Valley and honored outgoing Senator Carol Liu with our H.E.A.R.T. award for her years of speaking up for young children while serving in the California Legislature.
In San Bernardino County, our roots are taking place. 2016 marked our first Policy Forum, held in partnership with First 5 San Bernardino, and engaged community leaders and elected officials in learning about the child care needs of their local families.
During the year, CCRC provides regular updates on our services and policy issues related to child care and early learning to (local, state and federal) elected officials. CCRC’s service area covers 11 Congressional Districts, nine State Senate Districts and 14 State Assembly Districts. In addition, we are working with County Board of Supervisors in both Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties.
