survey was coded to identify the participant to allow the Research Team to match their survey responses to data from the database. The percent agreement with each of these statements is presented in Table 14 for all core participants and for LACOCC RTT participants. High percentages of participants agreed that the fundamentals of the coaching relationship were built, and this is corroborated with the participants’ feedback during the focus groups. As seen in Table 14, the area with the lowest percent of participants in agreement was “Helped me find groups of other professionals like me.” It was anticipated that after presenting the results to the executives, management, and staff that this area would increase based on programmatic changes. However, it has not changed. Given the research on the importance of communities of practice, this area should receive increased attention by Gateways program designers.

Gateways Coaching Participants’ Perception of Coaches
“Being able to talk with my coach about feeling the stress I didn’t know I was under, about what I was doing, the responsibilities. She was able to recognize the stress and give the encouragement and direction to make that change (of job) and get back to why I am in the business in the first place.”
“The way [my Coach] was with me made me more confident...she gave me that confidence, giving me the nerve to submit the info for the (permit) upgrade.”
“My coach has been tremendous because when I got into the program I was going through some changes and I lost motivation. I was going through personal stuff. When she came my child care wasn't what I would like for it to be...She came in and I felt very comfortable. And now my child care is totally different. I feel great.”
