Laps4Literacy | October 10, 2015
The 6th Annual Laps4Literacy event took place at the JetHawks Stadium in Lancaster where registered attendees participated in a 5K run or walk. All proceeds went to the purchase of books for children in the Antelope Valley. After the morning run, more than 2,000 children and families took part in our free family play day filled with child development activities and entertainment. Families got to take home a bag of fresh fruits and vegetables and each child went home with an age appropriate book. The JetHawks and Time Warner Cable were proud sponsors of this event.
Holiday Book & Toy Drive
From the end of October through early December, community organizations partner with us to collect toys and books for the children in our local community. We believe that every child deserves a happy holiday and strive to reach as many children as possible. Thanks to all those who donated, we were able to give a toy and book to children in our Home Visiting, FCCHEN, CCP, Early Head Start, and Best Start programs, along with those who took time to visit us during the winter break.
Doris McClain Memorial Library
The book, toy, and resource library in Palmdale offers parents, children and early childhood professionals the opportunity to explore, play, and learn! We create brain building moments with age appropriate Vroom interactions and explore the brainy science behind them. Child development professionals are available to assist parents and early childhood educators who may have child development questions or are in need of local community resources. Every Wednesday, for an hour, children and their parents take time out of their busy schedule to join other families for weekly story time and related activities.
