School Readiness
CCRC provides evidence-based, educational programs that support the positive social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children ages 0-5. The program engages parents, family members, and children to ensure that children develop the solid foundation necessary to enter kindergarten and that they are prepared to succeed. Services are culturally and linguistically appropriate, and sensitive to the needs of diverse populations, including children with disabilities and other special needs.
Kindergarten Transition activities include:
▶ Kindergarten Field Trips: Teachers and children have a walking
field trip to their local elementary school. Children explore the different areas in the kindergarten classroom.
▶ Cafeteria Style Meals: Teachers reenact the Kindergarten cafeteria line. Meals are served in the same manner as an elementary school.
▶Classroom Environment: Teachers prepare children for their transition to a new school and classroom. Dramatic role-play is one example of introducing new school situations and activities.
▶ Journal Entries: Children write about transitioning to kindergarten.
▶ Physical and Mental Growth: Teachers address personal growth changes, both physical and developmental with children.
Home visits encourage parents to ask questions and receive information regarding:
▶ School registration requirements
▶ Upcoming workshops/trainings
▶ Assessment tools and information to show child’s progress ▶ Activities encouraging language and literacy development
