Family Engagement
Parents are provided the opportunity to receive training and information in order to enhance the continuity of care for their children as they transition from the Head Start program to public school. Below is a list of activities that support children and families with a smoother Kindergarten transition:
▶ Transition topics are addressed at center committee meetings
▶ Kindergarten/transition events are hosted twice a year
▶ Kindergarten transition booklet to all families
▶ Family Advocates meet with parents to assist with the completion of Kindergarten application

   Monthly parent meetings at each site include:
▶ Voting (i.e., field trips, activities, Parent Council Representatives) ▶ Policy Committee information
▶ Guest speaker and/or informative materials
▶ Lesson planning
▶ Non federal share

Parent University - “Community Resources” and “Kindergarten Transition”: ▶ Community vendors (25-30)
▶ Workshops
Parent workshops at sites: ▶ Scrapbooking
▶ Educational carnival
▶ Crafting children’s t-shirts for field trips
▶ Parent and child activity-making children’s handprint using plaster of paris ▶ Learning self-regulation through art
End of the year activities: ▶ Science
▶ Recycling
▶ Planting/growing ▶ Math
▶ Non Federal Share ▶ Parent concerns
