Parent Involvement
National Workshops Parent Education Advisory Meetings (PEAM) are held for parents/volunteers who go above and beyond. Spanish and English classes include:
▶ NAMI Basics Mental Health - 8 weeks ▶ Parent Support Circles - 8 weeks
▶ Incredible Years - 18 weeks
Policy Council (PC) Meetings: The PC is the governing body of the Head Start program. This body of parents meets each month to advocate and be the voice for all parents in the program. Each center has a parent representative that attends the monthly PC meeting that serves as a bridge between centers and leadership including the Agency’s Board of Directors. They report back to center parents regarding the work being performed at the PC Meetings.
PC Breakfast: This event serves as a transition between outgoing and incoming PC representatives.
Parent-Provider Luncheon: CCRC staff and the Policy Council host an annual luncheon to honor and recognize community partners that help provide critical services to Head Start children and parents. Parents share their testimonies of how Head Start has impacted their lives.
Center Committee Meetings: Center committees are formed with parents of currently enrolled children. Parents nominate and vote for two parents per classroom to form the committee. Parents host meetings every month to discuss business and enhance leadership skills.
Father Engagement Events: We host father engagement events throughout the year to provide opportunities to involve male figures in their child’s education. This year, we hosted a Daddy and Me Science Fair and over 120 families attended the event. We also had dads read stories in the classroom and play music for the children. There is also representation of fathers on the Policy Council and Parent Committees. Each year, we increase the number of fathers and male figures engaged in the program.
Summer Events: To create a connection to our families during the summer, we hosted three summer events to give families a place to bring their children at no cost to them. We had several fun and educational activities for the children to enjoy and also provided vision and hearing screenings.
