Make sure babies have a safe sleep.
 Every 5 days,
a baby
in Los Angeles County
suffocates
while sleeping.
Together we can change that!
• Lay the baby down to sleep in a crib or bassinet.
• Place the baby on their back at night and for naps.
• Give the baby space to breathe. Don’t place any items, blankets, or toys in the crib.
• Use wearable blankets or sleepers to keep the baby warm and safe.
• Overheating is common in the winter, be sure not to overheat infants with too much clothing. Keep room temperature at what would be comfortable for a lightly clothed adult.
• Car seats, swings and infant carriers are not recommended for routine sleep. Infants who are younger than 4 months are particularly at risk, because they might assume positions that can create risk of suffocation or airway obstruction, according to an online source found on www.pediatrics.org. If babies fall asleep in a car seat or swing they are to be moved to a flat surface as soon as possible.
We ask you to share this information with the parents you work with. It is important that you and the parents follow the above guidelines to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
